John is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Enrolled Agent, Equity Compensation Associate, and Certified Private Wealth Advisor with over a decade of experience specializing in equity compensation, retirement planning, and tax strategy. John joined BKFi in 2020 after heading up the financial planning team at another firm in Michigan. His passion for financial planning started early—he opened his first Roth IRA in high school to optimize his FAFSA—and he was the 2015 national champion of the FASTech Cup Financial Planning Case Study Competition.

As Managing Partner at BKFi, he leads the firm's planning strategy with technical expertise and a clear vision for the future of financial advice while overseeing day-to-day management and chairing the Investment Committee. John chose the planning profession because it is the perfect intersection of his two passions: helping people and simplifying complex problems.

Get to know John:

When I'm not helping clients navigate their financial journeys, you can find me staying active - running, biking, or enjoying the sunshine by the pool in summer. Family time is important to me, whether it's rock climbing with my siblings, visiting my parents, or sharing laughs with extended family. I have quite the sweet tooth and am always exploring Lancaster's local ice cream shops. At industry conferences, I try to make complex financial topics more accessible and occasionally even entertaining. My goal is to bring the same approachable style to my client relationships as I do to my presentations.

The best piece of financial advice I’ve ever received is…

“ Save early and save often. From the passbook savings account, I had as a kid, the savings bonds my parents got for me as a baby, and the Roth IRA that opened in high school - all of these things are crucially important and have helped me on my financial journey. The point was driven home by Nick Murray in his book Simple Wealth, Inevitable Wealth - which helped further inspire and inform my savings habits and investment strategy over time.”
