Expanded Bio

John Owens, CFP, CPWA, EA is the Managing Partner at BKFi, where he leads the firm’s planning strategy with technical expertise and a clear vision for the future of financial advice. With over a decade of experience, John specializes in equity compensation, retirement planning, and tax strategy. He’s a frequent and engaging speaker at industry conferences, especially within NAPFA, where he’s known for making even the most complex topics relatable (and surprisingly funny).

John’s passion for financial planning started early—he opened his first Roth IRA in high school to optimize his FAFSA. He launched his professional career in tax preparation and financial planning and was the 2015 national champion of the FASTech Cup Financial Planning Case Study Competition.
