John Owens, CFP®, CPWA®, EA is the Managing Partner at Brooklyn Fi, where he leads the firm’s financial planning strategy. With more than a decade of experience, John focuses on equity compensation, retirement planning, and tax strategy, helping clients make thoughtful decisions when the stakes are high.
John got interested in financial planning early. He opened his first Roth IRA in high school, partly out of curiosity and partly to optimize his FAFSA. He started his career in tax preparation and financial planning, which gave him a strong technical foundation and an appreciation for how much real life shows up in money decisions. In 2015, he was the national champion of the FASTech Cup Financial Planning Case Study Competition.
He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, especially within NAPFA, and is known for making complex topics approachable without dumbing them down. Whether he is walking through changes to the tax code or helping someone think through a long-term plan, John has a way of explaining things that feels clear, grounded, and surprisingly engaging.
